Privacy Policy

Introduction.

The following policies are enforced within the “Cherub” platform, referencing the website and mobile applications by the same name by the Cherub business. This is also used as a collective term to reference the Cherub business. In this document, individuals using the Cherub platform are referred to as “users”. This is exclusive to individuals who currently have an account on Cherub. Those who have downloaded the application, or visited the website are not included.

The term “Cherub Moderation Team” refers to a subset of the Cherub business which takes the responsibility of moderating content uploaded to the platform and conducting appropriate action.

Users are required to acknowledge and agree to the following terms, alongside the [Terms of Use], in order to gain access to and use Cherub. The records of which policies have been accepted by each user will be stored in Cherub's database unless deleted or modified under the conditions described under Data Deletion.

Collected Data

  1. Account Data

To use Cherub, each user must create an account. We reccomend each individual using the platform owns their own account and does not share it with others for the best experience. Listed below is information which Cherub requires from a user when creating an account, accompanied by an explanation for this data collection.
1.1 Email address - each account must have a unique email address. This will be used to contact the account’s owner when necessary. Additionally, some features may be limited until a user’s email address has been “verified”, indicating to Cherub that it is owned by a genuine, active user. 1.2 Password - every account requires a password to limit access to solely authorised individuals. Passwords must have specific criteria as specified within our [Terms of Use]. To change the password of an account (which is how you can recover a “lost” account which you no longer have access to after forgetting the details), please follow the steps for “Reset Password” as described within the [Terms of Use]. 1.3 Date of Birth - for the safety and wellbeing of some of the users of Cherub, the platform requires each user to provide their accurate date of birth in order to determine their age. This is used to limit features where necessary, particularly social features which are deemed to not be suitable for younger ages. This information is not visible to any other users. 1.4 Name - each user is asked to provide a name. This is used to personalise the experience of each user on Cherub as it is shown in various locations on the platform. Additionally, this information is also public on the user’s profile and under recipes published by the user. This can be modified at any time under profile settings. The name provided does not have to be a user’s legal name. It is advised that the user uses their forename or a nickname for the sake of privacy. 1.5 Bio - users are able to write a “bio” about themselves which will be displayed on their profile. This is optional, and can be changed at any time under the profile settings page. 1.6 Profile Picture - every user is able to upload a profile picture (an image) linked to their account. This will be displayed on their profile and is visible to every user on the Cherub platform and publicly on the Cherub website. Cherub retains the right to use any of this data publicly for the purposes of promotional material and across the Cherub platform. As is described below, all data linked to an account will be deleted upon account deletion, or upon request by the account’s owner.

  1. Uploaded Media

The term “media” refers to all content uploaded to Cherub. For each of the following, the data collected for each form of media is listed, along with any available options to modify or delete the data within the application. 2.1 Recipes - recipes can be uploaded by users with the appropriate permissions (as described in the [Terms of Use]). Data collected during this is provided by users, including: a title for the recipe, a description of the recipe, an image of what the recipe produces, steps within the recipes (and associated data including titles and durations of linked timers to each step), “tags” (short pieces of text) relating to the recipe content used to aid in recipe distribution and discovery, an estimated time taken to complete the recipe, and the amounts, names, and units of ingredients needed within the recipe. Not all of this data is required, but it is all used to benefit users in discovering recipes, following recipes, and finding out more information about recipes. Some of these details can be edited within Cherub using the “edit recipe” option, which is accessible by clicking the three dots when viewing details about a recipe. For information about media associated with “accounts” or “profiles” on Cherub, please see the Account Data section above for more details.

  1. Application Data Collection

Some data that is stored by Cherub is solely kept on the user’s device which runs the application. This data will not automatically be deleted upon account deletion, and can instead be cleared by deleting the application. This data is never shared with Cherub. The following is a list of data which Cherub stores “on-device”. 3.1 Recent Recipes - Cherub stores unique identifiers for the 24 most recent recipes a user has followed on that device. This data is used to track the user's activity, and it is also used within the reccomendation algorithm to priortise recipes which may be relevant to the user. This data is never tranferred to another device. 3.2 Recent Searches - each search query submitted into Cherub is stored locally so they can be searched again easily. If a recipe is tapped on after making this query, the search will be stored anomynously as stated below under User Activity, otherwise this will only be stored locally.

  1. User Activity

Direct activities by the user will be detected and stored using data linked to them individually. The following is a list of features which when used will result in data being stored. This list is exclusive to data linked to individual users. Anonymous data storage is listed further down under the Other Platform Usage section below. 4.1 Saved Recipes - when viewing, or after completing a recipe, users are able to tap to “save” recipes, allowing them to be accessed conveniently. This data is only accessible to the user who saved the recipe and this data can be removed at any time by “un-saving” a recipe.

  1. Other Platform Usage

While users use Cherub, some activity may result in data being collected. This information is not directly linked or traceable to the user and so is except from data deletion requests and will not be removed upon account deletion. The following list describes what data is collected and under what circumstances it is collected: 5.1 Search - when using the “search” feature to find recipes, the text content of the search query may be processed and stored on Cherub’s database. This enables features such as “Trending Searches” in which any users can see what searches are most popular at the time. This data may be deleted automatically after a couple of months.

Data Usage

Cherub reserves the right to access and use all collected data. This data may be used for any of purposes listed below.

  1. Data is used to provide services on Cherub including the core Cherub service of discovering, creating, and sharing recipes. This data may also be used to provide any future additional services brought to Cherub.
  2. Data may be collected and reviewed by the Cherub Team in order to improve upon the service, allowing it to be enhanced for all users of the platform.
  3. Some data is essential to keep the platform safe and secure for all users. Data such as each user's Date of Birth allow us to achieve this by implementing restrictions and security measures where deemed necessary.
  4. Marketing material may contain any data shared to Cherub. This is material constructed with the intent to promote the platform and encourage other users to join, or return to the platform.

Data Deletion

Every user on Cherub retains the right to request that their data be deleted or modified at any time. Cherub also holds the right to delete or modify any of this data when deemed appropriate. Listed below are the following conditions under which these may occur.

  1. Account Deletion - when an account is deleted, either by the user who is logged in to it (via the settings menu as described under the [terms_of_use]), or by the Cherub Moderation Team within the event it is deemed that a user should no longer have access to the platform.
  2. Modification Request - any user of Cherub (with an account) is able to request a modification or deletion of data associated with their account and therefore them as an individual. For proof of identity, we require this request to be sent from the email address linked to the account for proof of ownership.
